From an idea to a finished rifle.
Tell us the job.
What you hunt or shoot, the calibre you like, the weight you want to carry and your budget. Include your rifle or action if you already have one.
Agree the build.
We recommend the barrel, contour and parts and send a full quote. You can spec the barrel yourself in the Barrel Builder.
We build and test it.
We make the barrel, do the machining and fitting, set up the optic and check the rifle before it goes home. Barrels take 6–8 weeks.

What to know.
Common questions about custom rifle builds at True-Flite.
How much does a custom rifle cost in NZ?
A new True-Flite barrel fitted to your existing rifle starts at $1,750 incl GST, including chambering, crowning, a muzzle thread and bead blast. A complete custom rifle depends on the action, stock or chassis, trigger and optic you choose; we quote it in full once the components are agreed.
Can I buy just the barrel?
Yes. You can buy a True-Flite barrel on its own, fitted to your rifle here or supplied as a blank for your own gunsmith. Or we can supply the whole rifle: action, chassis or stock, trigger, suppressor, scope and mounts. If you want a part, we can source it.
Which actions do you build on?
Recent builds include Tikka T3x, Sako 90, Remington 700, Weatherby Mark V, Impact 737R, Pristine, Barnard, Vudoo V22 and CZ 457. Tell us what you have or want, and we confirm compatibility before quoting.
Can you build a custom rifle from my existing rifle?
Yes. Many of our builds start with a customer’s own rifle: a new barrel in a better chambering or contour, fluting, an accurised action, a chassis and a new optic.
How long does a custom rifle take?
The barrel is typically 6–8 weeks from order, and fitting follows once the barrel is made. Complete builds depend on component availability; we confirm a timeframe with your quote.
Do you make the barrel yourselves?
Yes. True-Flite has made button-rifled 416R stainless and carbon-wrapped barrels in Gisborne since 1995, so the barrel, chambering and fitting are all done in one workshop.
Can I get my rifle to you from anywhere in New Zealand?
Yes. We receive and return rifles by dealer-to-dealer transfer anywhere in NZ for $60 incl GST, or you can drop it at our Gisborne workshop by arrangement. A current NZ firearms licence is required.
Do you build rimfire and .50 BMG rifles?
Yes. We make .22 LR match barrels for actions such as the Vudoo V22 and CZ 457, and barrels up to .50 calibre and 34″ long for rifles like our Barnard .50 BMG.
Do you supply scopes and suppressors with the build?
Yes. We supply Nightforce scopes with free fitting, Nocpix thermal optics, suppressors, muzzle brakes, mounts and other components as part of the build.
