About True-Flite · Gisborne, New Zealand

Precision is our trade.
Shooting is our passion.

A barrel carries our name long after it leaves the workshop, and that matters to us. True-Flite has made rifle barrels in New Zealand since 1995. Today, from our Gisborne workshop, we make the barrels, fit them, build complete rifles around them and ship them to shooters around the world.

Meet the owner

Anthony Walsh

Machinist. Gunsmith. Shooter.

Anthony’s interest in firearms began with a childhood curiosity about how things worked. Target shooting led to duck shooting, hunting and later pistol shooting, and those interests became his working life.

A Mechanical Engineering Trade Certificate, more than 15 years of machining and NZQA gunsmithing qualifications are the foundation for everything that leaves the workshop, from a single barrel to a complete custom rifle.

Anthony runs the business hands-on: barrel making, gunsmithing, custom builds and export orders all go across his bench. The approach is simple. Understand the rifle, get the details right and take pride in the finished work.

Our approach

Good work starts
with the details.

A rifle is a personal investment. The care that goes into the work should be matched by the way we look after you.

CRAFTSMANSHIP

Pride in the work.

Careful machining, attention to fit and finish, and respect for the rifle on the bench. Ten shots through one hole at 100 m is the kind of result we build for.

DEVELOPMENT

Always looking ahead.

From our first carbon-wrapped barrel to Aerocell fluting and the online Barrel Builder, we keep developing what a New Zealand barrel maker can offer.

The True-Flite story

New Zealand made.
Since 1995.

True-Flite began making barrels to take control of supply and quality. That decision grew into a specialist New Zealand manufacturer.

  1. September 1995 · Auckland

    Making our own.

Production began in a small Auckland workshop after delays and inconsistent quality from overseas suppliers prompted the decision to manufacture locally. Accuracy and consistency were the priorities from day one.

  2. May 2000 · Mount Maunganui

    Room to grow.

A move to larger premises in Mount Maunganui made room for more machinery as demand grew, including from overseas customers.

  3. Today · Gisborne

    The next chapter.

Under Anthony Walsh, True-Flite now combines barrel making with custom rifles and gunsmithing in Gisborne, and adds carbon-wrapped barrels, Aerocell fluting and exports to Australia, the UK, Europe and Asia.

What we do today
