Aerocell
barrel fluting.
Our signature pocket pattern. Made here in New Zealand.
Aerocell is True-Flite’s own rifle barrel fluting design, featuring a repeating pattern of machined pockets. It removes weight from the barrel’s exterior and creates a distinctive finish for your custom rifle build.

A True-Flite design
Developed in-house, with a recognisable pocket pattern that gives your barrel its own character.
Weight removed
Material is removed from the exterior. The amount depends on the contour, barrel length and selected configuration.
Made to suit the barrel
We assess the barrel and agree on a suitable layout before confirming the work.
What is Aerocell fluting?
Conventional barrel fluting uses long grooves. Aerocell uses a series of individual pockets arranged across the barrel’s exterior, giving it a more detailed, sculpted appearance. The examples above show how the pattern looks on real True-Flite stainless barrels.
Your barrel. Your configuration.
Aerocell can be discussed as part of a new True-Flite barrel order or custom rifle build. For an existing barrel, suitability needs to be assessed before we can confirm the service. Send us your rifle details and the result you’re looking for, and we’ll advise on the available options.

- Assessed individually for the proposed fluting.
- Barrel length
- Layout agreed to suit the barrel and build.

Photos show example configurations. Pocket layout, fluted length and appearance may vary between barrels. We confirm the specification before the work begins.
Aerocell questions
How is Aerocell different from straight or spiral fluting?
Straight and spiral fluting use continuous grooves. Aerocell uses separate machined pockets to create its distinctive repeating pattern. The photographs above show the difference in appearance.
How much weight does Aerocell remove?
There is no single figure that applies to every barrel. Weight reduction depends on the original contour, barrel length and agreed configuration. Ask us about the expected reduction for your particular build.
Can you flute my existing barrel?
We need to assess it first. Send us the rifle make and model, barrel length, material and clear photographs. We’ll advise whether Aerocell is an option and what is needed for a quote.
Does fluting make a rifle more accurate?
We don’t promise an accuracy improvement from fluting alone. Aerocell is a choice for weight reduction and appearance. The accuracy of the completed rifle depends on the barrel, fitting, ammunition and overall setup.
Can I specify Aerocell on a new True-Flite barrel?
Yes—include Aerocell in your barrel enquiry. Tell us your rifle or action, cartridge, preferred barrel length and intended use so we can discuss the contour and available configuration together.
How do I get a price and turnaround time?
Contact True-Flite with your rifle details and let us know whether you’re ordering a new barrel or enquiring about an existing one. We’ll confirm suitability, the proposed work, pricing and current turnaround before you proceed.
